Editions and publications

We ensure that our research is accessible to society.

In 2024, the museum published the catalogue “Mūzikas instrumenti un to būvētāji Latvijā”. This is the first publication to compile and celebrate a nationally significant part of Latvian heritage that has long remained under-recognised. The catalogue was created through close collaboration between the author – musician, music historian, educator, and founder and long-time head of the museum’s Music Department, Elmārs Zemovičs – and the museum’s specialists. It features objects from the museum’s musical instrument collection, as well as instruments from private collections, churches, and other institutions. The catalogue “Musical Instruments and Their Makers in Latvia” is available for purchase at the museum’s reading room, 8 Pulka Street, Riga.

Our researchers share their findings through the museum’s digital magazine “Stāstnesis”.

They also publish in other scholarly platforms (for example, in the database www.literatura.lv created by the Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art of the University of Latvia, as well as in the scientific proceedings of the National History Museum of Latvia).
