General accessibility policy
The Latvian National Museum of Literature and Music aims to create an accessible and inclusive environment for all visitors, regardless of their physical abilities or individual needs. Our goal is to ensure that cultural heritage and information are accessible to all, creating equal opportunities to participate in cultural life.
To achieve this, we:
- ensure physical access to buildings and premises for people with mobility impairments and strollers;
- develop communication solutions for people with hearing and visual impairments;
- offer individual support and consultations by prior arrangement;
- regularly improve the museum’s services, taking into account accessibility standards and visitor needs;
- invite visitors to provide feedback and suggestions so that we can work together to create a more accessible environment.

Here is some practical information that will be useful when planning a visit to the museum, both for people with reduced mobility and visual or hearing impairments, as well as for anyone else who is interested:

Accessibility at the Museum repository
The museum repository is located at Pulka iela 8, Riga, Pārdaugava.
The Exhibition Hall, the cultural space “Tintnīca” and the Reading Room are open to visitors in the Museum repository.
We have made every effort to ensure that the museum premises are accessible to as wide an audience as possible, including people with functional impairments.
Building accessibility, parking, public transport and access to the building
- Free parking is available to the left of the main entrance to the museum’s storage facility.
- Convenient parking for persons with disabilities who have a parking permit is available near the main entrance to the repository.

Description of the building
- The Museum repository is comfortably accessible to people in wheelchairs, with prams and other visitors with limited mobility.
- The public areas of the repository – the cultural space Tintnīca, the Exhibition Hall and the Reading Room – are located on one level, ensuring convenient and safe movement for people with mobility aids.
- Facilities for visitors with mobility impairments are available on the ground floor.
- The museum is open to visitors with service dogs.
- Overall, the museum premises are sufficiently and evenly lit, without sudden changes in lighting. Please contact us for detailed information on the use of artificial and daylight lighting in the building.
- There are signs in the building to help you find your way around.

Accessibility

Accessibility of the exhibition “Song Festival Hall“
The exhibition “Song Festival Hall” is located at Ostas prospekts 11, Mežaparks Grand Bandstand.
Visitors can access the the exhibition and the Community Room on the second floor of the exhibition.
We have taken care to ensure that the museum premises are accessible to as wide an audience as possible, including people with functional impairments.

Parking and bicycle parking
- There is no visitor parking at the exhibition. Passengers can be dropped off at the entrance to Mežaparks from Mangaļsala or the Zoo, or at the free parking lot. Map.

- A bicycle parking area is available at the entrance to the exhibition.
Description of the building
- The building has a wide entrance (with automatic doors) that allows easy access to the exhibition rooms with wheelchairs or strollers.

- The 1st floor houses the permanent exhibition “Song Festival Hall”, while the second floor houses the activity area Community Room.
- Lockers are available for visitors on the 1st floor of the exhibition.
- The exhibition space and Community Room are located on the same level, ensuring barrier-free access and safe movement for people with mobility aids.
- Restrooms for visitors with reduced mobility are available on the 1st floor.
- The exhibition is open to visitors with service dogs.
- Overall, the exhibition rooms are sufficiently and evenly lit, with changes in lighting during the video segments. Please contact us for detailed information on the use of artificial and daylight lighting in the exhibition.

- The exhibition can be accessed with prams. If necessary, prams can be left in the cloakroom area on the 1st floor.

- Using the elevator (door opening width 8890 cm), the Community Room is accessible to visitors with strollers.
- A changing table is available in the restrooms on the 1st floor.

Accessibility for visitors with reduced mobility
- The building has a wide entrance door, allowing easy access to the exhibition rooms with a wheelchair.
- Using the elevator (door opening width 88–90 cm), the Community Room is accessible to visitors with reduced mobility.
- Facilities for people with reduced mobility are located on the 1st floor.
- The exhibition is open to visitors with service dogs.
Accessibility features for visitors with visual impairments
- The buttons on the exhibition elevator control panel are marked in Braille.
- The exhibition has a unified navigation system. The floor plan stands have tactile information and information in Braille.
- Before the museum closes (30 minutes and 15 minutes), audio announcements in Latvian and English are played to warn visitors that the museum is gradually closing.
- Some exhibitions have information materials in large print. Printed versions are available in the exhibition halls.
- The museum is open to visitors with service dogs.
Accessibility for visitors with hearing impairments
- The exhibition is equipped with induction loop systems for people with hearing impairments.
- Where possible, descriptions and/or subtitles are provided for the video and audio works on display.

Accessibility of the exhibition “Procrastination & Creation“
The exhibition “Procrastination & Creation” is located in Old Riga, at 6 Mārstaļu Street, in a historic building with five levels: a basement, four floors and an attic.
We have made sure that the museum premises are accessible to as wide an audience as possible, including people with functional impairments.

Parking and bicycle parking
- There is no parking for museum visitors’ private cars at the exhibition Procrastination & Creation. Passengers can be dropped off at Mārstaļu iela 6, at the entrance to the exhibition.
- The nearest parking lots, including those for people with disabilities (with a parking card), are located here. (map)
- Bicycle parking is available in the exhibition courtyard, entering from Alksnāju Street 6.

- The exhibition has one entrance from Mārstaļu Street. The building has four floors and a basement.

- The building has a door with a wide entrance and a ramp, as well as a portable ramp, which allows easy access to the exhibition rooms with wheelchairs or prams.
- Lockers are available for visitors in the vestibule on the 1st floor next to the cloakroom.
- An elevator (door width when open – 88 cm) provides access to all floors of the museum.
- Restrooms for visitors with reduced mobility are available on the 1st and 4th floors.
- The basement has a children’s activity area and a classroom for educational activities.
- There is a café on the 1st floor (accessible via two steps; currently not fully adapted for wheelchair users).
- The 2nd and 3rd floors house the exhibition “Procrastination & Creation”.
- On the 4th floor, or attic, there is a room for relaxation, creation and events (accessible by elevator).
- Pictograms and signs in the museum will help you find your way around.
- Seating cushions are available in the lobby and exhibition area.

- The air temperature in the exhibition rooms may vary, averaging 19°C.
- Before the end of the exhibition (30 minutes and 15 minutes), audio messages in Latvian and English are played to warn visitors that the museum is gradually closing.
- The exhibition is open to visitors with service dogs.

- The exhibition can be accessed with single-seat baby strollers. If necessary, strollers can be left in the cloakroom area on the 1st floor.
- The building has a wide entrance door and a ramp, as well as a portable ramp, which allows easy access to the exhibition rooms with strollers.
- Using the elevator (door width when open – 88 cm), all exhibition halls are accessible to visitors with strollers.
- If necessary, please ask the museum staff for assistance in order to:
- open the entrance doors wider;
- putting in a ramp (pandus)
